Virginia Game Report

Hey Trojans, just a little recap of our trip to Charlottesville.

First, let me say that we were graciously welcomed to C'ville by 99% of the folks there. I only heard one "USC sucks" and was flipped off once by some loser UVA student while making my way back to Greensboro. All in all, we had a remarkable time, and the town and University were both impressive. My only regret, is that the game wasn't a month later. Not so much for a temperature aspect, moreso because I bet UVA and C'ville are spectacular in the dead of fall with Autumn color.

On Friday, we made our way up to C'ville, unfortunately having to forego our "Conquest Caravan to Charlottesville." That being said I had to "represent," so the night before, I decorated my car with some Cardinal and Gold battle paint. Here are a couple of pics:

The drive up 29 was really nice, mostly rural, and definitely relaxing and easy. A trip up there during the peak of fall would be amazing I am sure. Three and a half hours later, we were in the den of the "enemy."

We first stopped off at "Buffalo Wild Wings," were my pledge brother, Garry Paskwietz (Owner of the USC website "WeAreSC.com")was having a Trojan luncheon for the faithful. I hadn't seen him in some time, so it was great catching up. I also ran into two other Fraternity brothers as well as Mark Sanchez's mother, brother, sister-in-law, and nephew "Nico." They were a very pleasant family, easy to talk to and my son Ethan, played with Nico, which was cool. Mrs. Sanchez was nervous about her son's knee, and remarked that Mark was the driving force to get up and playing as soon as possible, not the coaches and not the doctors. Needless to say, he performed beautifully. To me, his play of the day was when he sat back in the pocket, eating a sandwich, and none of the WR were open. Instead of forcing a throw, he scrambled to the left and ran out of bounds after about 4-5 yards. It was then I knew we'll be fine because he took what the D gave him and didn't force the issue. If he manages the games like that, we have an incredible season ahead of us.

The UVA campus is amazing, exactly what I imagined an old, established East Coast University to look like. Here is a picture of me on "The Lawn," right in front of the "Rotunda." This is the original campus of the University created by Thomas Jefferson.
The Triad Trojan "tailgate" was a bit of a nightmare to coordinate having never been to C'ville or UVA before. That being said, I was able to find some of us in that chaos. Here is a picture of the TT's I rounded up:

Andrew, Todd, Kim, Laura, Ken, and Lil' Cal
(missing David & Mary)
Here are some pics from the game:

"Flyover" the jets are barely above the rim of the stadium and the never actually "flew over."

End of 3, and the Cav faithful are heading for their cars.

52-7 Conquest!

Sylvia and Ethan say "Fight On!"
A GREAT time up there. Looks like the next roadtrip on the East Coast own't be until 2011 and a trip to Boston for Boston College.

The Trojans rest for a week before the MASSIVE game vs. the Buckeyes.

Finally, congrats to the UCLA Bruins on beating yet another overhyped SEC team, Tennessee. (Okay, I just threw up a bit). Pac-10: 1, SEC: 0

Fight On!

And a great time was had by all, or at least those of us wearing cardinal.

Did it strike anyone else as weird that all the songs by the UVA band were all reused tunes, with UVA lyrics? Never knew Auld Lang Syne was a fight song!

Not to pick on their 'pony' mascot, but we should have brought our horse, and the full band.

We came, we saw, and we had a great game. Feeling more comfortable about next game, but will be a much better caliber team we'll face.

I don't think UVA 'gave up' but they knew pretty quickly they were out classed and didn't seem to be concerned even though nothing was working for them. Hope they have a good rest of their season.

Good to see Andrew and couple others, and plenty of Trojan faithful.

Fight on!!!
