Less than 750 USC vs. UVA Tickets Left
Nothing gets my blood pumping more than coming out of summer, and into Autumn and FOOTBALL SEASON!! Strangely enough, there is a hint of color in some of the maples around our neighborhood, which seems early to me.
With the Trojan/Cavalier tilt less than a week away, tickets are going fast. There is less than 750 ducats left on StubHub with some FIXED prices as low as $55. That's only $5 above face value folks, so now is the time to get in.
I actually have one ticket in section 519 (next to me) for sale for $50. Unfortunately, my wife will have to watch our 15 month old son, Ethan, and won't be able to go to the game. So, if there is a Trojan out there interested in buying it, contact me at GSOTrojan@aol.com.

Trojan Goodwill Paying Dividends...
Our grassroots endeavor to assist the children at the Boys and Girls Club of Charlottesville is paying dividends! The organization has already received over 90 tickets for the Richmond and East Carolina games, so THANK YOU for helping make this worthwhile charitable gift a reality.
Our good deed has not gone unnoticed. Here is a short video from the local Charlottesville TV station WCAV 12:
"USC Fans Donate UVa Tickets" video
We are also getting some nice press back "home," in California. A blog entry from the Long Beach Press Enterprise:
"USC Fans Donate 88 Tickets To Va. Kids"
I hope if you haven't sold your Richmond/ECU tickets, that you'll consider sending them to the Boys and Girls Club.
[UPDATE 8/21/08]
118 tickets have been donated to date.
[UPDATE 8/20/08]

USC Fans Ticket Donations SOAR to 88 for Richmond/ECU Games
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LOCAL KIDS HAVE UNLIKELY BENEFACTOR FROM VIRGINIA FOE
Trojan Fans Donate Numerous Football Tickets to Local Charity
On August 30th, when Virginia opens its season against national power Southern California, the Cavalier fans won’t be cheering for the Trojans, but a group of fortunate kids from the Boys and Girls Club of Charlottesville will. It isn’t because the kids want USC to win, or because they don’t believe in Al Groh’s team this season. No, they are cheering for selfish reasons.
Trojan fans, many of whom purchased the “Season Kickoff Package” from the UVA ticket office only for the opportunity to see USC face Virginia, have no reason to keep their Richmond or East Carolina tickets; they won’t be around long enough to use them. Instead, a USC support group in North Carolina came up with the idea of donating the extra tickets to the Boys and Girls Club of Charlottesville (http://bgclubcville.org), instead of selling the seats on eBay or StubHub.
“I’m a big college football message board fan,” said Andrew Mayon, President of the Triad Trojan Club in Greensboro, NC. “I came across a site called “The Sabre.com,” which is frequented by Virginia fans. Their fans were very gracious in discussing the upcoming game versus USC, as well as providing information regarding tailgating, places to visit, places to eat, things to do, etc. It’s always great to mix it up with fans at an opposing school before a game, and the ‘Hoo fans have been a lot of fun.”
So in this day and age of the internet, a Cardinal and Gold opportunity arose.
“On The Sabre.com, there was a small ad stating that the site supported the Boys and Girls Club, so that was the impetus to offer my extra tickets to them. I knew I wasn’t going to need them, so I contacted Sabrina Grant, who is the Club’s support specialist, to offer my seats. She was very excited, and very appreciative to receive some tickets for her kids.”
So how did an innocuous gesture of goodwill grow into a full-fledged charitable campaign?
“We always refer to fellow Trojans as “Family,” so who better to ask to assist in this great cause than members of the Trojan Family? I knew there must be numerous USC fans that purchased the same ticket package as I did, so I went on two USC message boards; WeAreSC.com and USCFootball.com and presented the idea on there. There was a tremendous response to this endeavor and we’re all just thrilled that some great kids will have the opportunity to experience the thrill of a college football game.”
Grant remarked, “This is the first time a fan base from a visiting school has donated this many tickets (88 at the time of this press release) to our organization. We hope that this will be the start of an ongoing trend by future Virginia opponents in future seasons. It is a tremendous opportunity for our kids to experience such a fun event. The fact that these donations were unsolicited by us, makes it an even more selfless act by the USC fans.”
So, while packaging tickets to see one marquis program and two, regional programs may have seemed like a novel and financially sound idea, the Virginia athletic department may have stumbled onto a more significant, though unintended consequence of their actions. When those Trojans, with their fabled Song Girls, Heisman Trophies, platinum record band, iconic white horse and their storied football tradition roll into Charlottesville, that Cardinal and Gold clad fan you’re sitting next to may have given a little part of themselves to help the local community.
Whether the Cavaliers win or lose to USC makes no difference. Because the Cavaliers agreed to play this game, some lucky local kids will enjoy a wonderful Saturday afternoon this season in Scott Stadium. Certainly, Charlottesville got more than they bargained for, all because of the goodwill by some thoughtful opposing fans, who only wanted to see their team play. For its efforts, UVA is playing a great program, on national TV, sold more tickets than expected to smaller games like Richmond and ECU, and now has some new young fans to bring into the fold. I guess it could be said, the University of Virginia has already won.

Less Than 1,200 USC vs. UVA Tickets Left
StubHub is showing less than 1,200 tickets remain for the USC/UVA game. There are some tickets that are $75 in section 522 and, someone has put 2 tickets in section 518 up for auction starting at $55.
It looks like many tickets are going for just under $100, with more in the $100-$125 range. My guess is, the closer we get to game time, the cheaper these will become as folks get scared they won't be able to sell them at all, so keep checking. You can get quick access to the StubHub USC/Virginia game by clicking the dueling helmet picture at the top of the blog.
[8/13 UPDATE]
There are now less than 1,100 tickets left, so if you are looking to buy, act fast!
Good luck!

Donated Tickets Update...
Please donate your tickets ASAP, as it gives the organization plenty of time to coordinate which kids go to which games, and makes the Club's job a little easier. Mailing information for the Boys & Girls' Club in in the right column under "USC/Virginia Quick Info."
Those who have donated tickets, your donation letter has been delayed due to the absence of the Director, who has recently undergone surgery. We wish him a speedy recovery!

USC vs. UVA Ticket Update...
There are less than 1,350 tickets left on StubHub, good luck!
For those of you in the Southeast (GA, SC, and NC), we should be finalizing our "Conquest Caravan to Charlottesville" very soon. Georgia Trojans will get an early start and hook up with Charlotte Trojans, who'll make their way up to Greensboro to meet up with Triad Trojans, as well as Triangle Trojans who'll make their way over from Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill/Cary. We'll all have lunch in Greensboro around 12:30 at Natty Greene's Brewhouse, then have a car painting party to get ready for the 3.5 hour drive out of Greensboro up Hwy 29 directly into C'ville, where we'll then disperse to our respective hotels.
We also need to decide what we want to do about Saturday's tailgate too.
Next week, I'll try to get a final tally, as well as a meeting point in Charlotte for the Georgia/Charlotte Trojans to link up before the 90 minute drive to GSO.
It's getting close folks, football is in the air!

USC vs. UVA Ticket Interest on 5 Continents!
The "Recent Activity Map" now shows hits from: Wien (Vienna), Austria - "Hallo!"; Singapore - "Hello!"; Brisbane, Australia - "G'Day!"; Honolulu, Hawai'i - "Aloha!"; and someplace near Africa - "Jamba!" There is someone from Livingston, New Jersey too, which was where I was born, oh so many years ago, so if you read this, email me at GSOTrojan@aol.com. Here is the map:
(Click on the image to enlarge)
There are now less than 1500 tickets to the game available on StubHub, down from over 1,600 about a week ago. I imagine that most of those will be sold within the next two weeks, so if you are looking to go to the game, now would be as good a time as any to get your tickets. Good luck and see you in Charlotesville!

USC vs. UVA In One Month!!!
Today is an annual ritual, when the battle colors start to fly so all my neighbors here in the Gate City can see the Cardinal and Gold grace my home. It flys lone and proud amongst the many UNC, NC State and Wake Forest flags (Duke flags don't come out until basketball season), along with a smattering of Notre Dame flags, a Tennessee, Auburn, Alabama and Florida flag or two. We actually have a really good mix of followers of college football in my community, so it is fun to walk the dogs at night, stop by a friend''s house and talk football.
If you still need USC/UVA tickets, there are still plenty available and the prices are dropping to low $70's. Since face value is $50, I don't think they'll get below $60 before the game, and most of the USC sections are going for under $90, for now.
This week we'll begin final plans for the caravan up to Charlottesville, starting with Trojans in Georgia, who'll link up with Queen City Trojans in Charlotte, then link up with Triad/Triangle Trojans in Greensboro for lunch, then car painting, then all of us will caravan up Hwy 29 into (friendly) enemy territory displaying our Trojan spirit for all the good folks in Virginia to see.
We'll also make plans for Saturday's tailgate (we have been invited to join some UVA fans in a joint party, which worked out very well for the USC/Auburn game a few years ago.) regarding location, food, drinks, etc.
This is going to be a BLAST! Hope you are getting "jacked."
